Our Story

COVID-19 took a massive toll. We lost lives, jobs, hopes…and it’s still not over.

The moment we all began to shelter in place, the way we worked changed forever. Working with global, distributed teams had always been there, but now 100% remote became the new normal.

One of the most dramatic effects of not being in the same room was the sudden loss of spontaneous collaboration, the moments' in-between structured meetings – the chance encounters in a hallway or in front of a whiteboard that spurred a random, creative idea.

Despite the plethora of productivity tools available for remote work, we struggled to find a tool that didn't force us to overcommunicate to illustrate an idea. What used to take 30 seconds and a whiteboard marker now takes dozens of text messages, emails and hour-long Zoom meetings. And while some of this may be resolved as we got back to the office, it's also clear that workers and companies have realized the productivity and flexibility value of working remotely. Working from home several days a week will be the new norm.

So we asked ourselves: how can we make it possible for a hybrid workforce to collaborate in a spontaneous and inspired way? We set three criteria:

It had to be faster and easier to use than anything we'd seen: the more complicated we made it, the more it would block natural thinking.

It had to combine visuals with text to make it easier to express idea – we're visual beings after all.

It should be seamless to transition back and forth between synchronous and asynchronous work – we can't predict when great ideas are born.

As we worked to build a user experience that met these standards, we kept coming back to the simplicity and ease of a whiteboard. And we realized we would have to be obsessively focused on making the user experience simple and avoid adding anything to the user experience that wasn't critical. Like a Dojo, the experience had to be minimalist and free of distraction to allow teams to focus on shared learning and development. We also needed to develop innovative technologies that would predict user intention to make it fast to communicate.

Thus, Dojoit was born. Dojoit is not just a whiteboarding tool; it's a new medium for lightning-fast, instant visual communication – reinventing the creative process and future-proofing hybrid-work organizations.
